Overcoming gender inequality and poverty, one camera at a time.
Cameras For Girls Is Different Because It Starts With Job Creation First.
At Cameras For Girls, we prioritize job creation in Africa's male-dominated media sectors. In regions where women's voices are often sidelined, providing meaningful employment opportunities is crucial for fostering sustainability, lasting change, and gender equality while also helping women escape poverty. Economic empowerment isn't just essential—it's intrinsic to our mission and values. Through our emphasis on job creation, we empower women across Africa and ensure our efforts' enduring impact and sustainability.
How Do We Do It?
Cameras For Girls pursues Women’s Empowerment and Gender Equality in Africa using photography as our catalyst. Our approach is simple yet impactful: we equip women facing gender-based employment barriers with a camera to keep and a comprehensive 4-phase curriculum encompassing photography, storytelling, and business skills. This empowers them to pursue careers as paid journalists and photographers in traditionally male-dominated spaces.
Through our program, our students don't just learn to capture the world—they seize it with newfound confidence. This enhances their career options and contributes to reducing gender inequality and combating poverty. Join us in making a tangible difference in the lives of young women across Africa.
