Our 2018 Uganda 4-day workshop experience

2018 – Our First Workshop in Uganda

After developing the idea for Cameras For Girls in 2017, it took a year of planning, collecting donated cameras, and recruiting our first cohort of 15 young women before we were ready to launch. In 2018, we proudly delivered our very first 3-day photography workshop in Uganda.

At that time, the training was focused solely on photography skills. Over the following year, the program grew into the year-long, four-phase curriculum we deliver today, combining photography, storytelling, business skills, and mentorship.

2018 also marked the beginning of our academic partnership with Makerere University’s journalism program, laying the foundation for years of collaboration in training and supporting young women pursuing careers in media.

This workshop was the spark that set Cameras For Girls in motion—a proof of concept that has since grown into a transformative program impacting women across Africa.
