Transparent Giving and Honest Impact

Our Mission

Cameras For Girls, a Canadian registered charity, pursues Women’s Empowerment and Gender Equality in Africa using photography as our catalyst. We provide women who face gender-based barriers to employment with a camera to keep and a 4-phase photography and business-skills curriculum to support their goals of becoming paid journalists and photographers in male-dominated spaces.

Our Values

We seek to ALLEVIATE POVERTY for girls and women endeavouring to be journalists in Africa.

We empower women to TELL STORIES THAT MATTER TO THEM, using photography as the medium.

We seek to level the playing field with GENDER EQUALITY in a mostly male-dominated fields of journalism and photography.

VISUAL STORYTELLING that allows for self-expression, self-empowerment, and self-reflection while working on their employment goals in the journalism field.

We seek to BUILD CAPACITY for girls and women and empower them to use their voices.

We pride ourselves on the difference we are making.

At Cameras For Girls, we believe in unveiling the potential of young women across Africa by starting with job creation. We recognize that the roots of gender inequality run deep, and to address this, we focus on empowering women from within. Our ethos centers on instilling in them a belief in their intrinsic value and capabilities.

Through a community-driven approach, we champion the philosophy of "walking with" rather than "doing for," involving local leaders in crafting grassroots solutions for gender-based barriers. We understand that poverty and gender barriers are multifaceted, requiring a comprehensive approach beyond providing cameras. Our efforts encompass a holistic transformation in perspectives.

In line with our commitment to local impact, we prioritize hiring predominantly from the communities we serve, which fosters a deep understanding of the challenges at hand and ensures that our interventions are tailored to the specific needs of each community.
